What does Promty do?
You hold a hotkey, talk, and let go. Promty transcribes what you said and rewrites the ramble into a shorter, structured prompt, then puts it on your clipboard or pastes it into the app you were using. Use it with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or anything that takes text.
Does anything leave my Mac?
Your voice, the transcript and the finished prompt stay on your Mac. Transcription and the rewrite both run on-device, using a local Qwen model through Apple's MLX. Promty goes online only to download models and to check for updates. There is no account.
Which Macs does it run on?
Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later) on macOS 14 or newer. It does not run on Intel Macs. Promty picks a model size that fits your Mac's memory.
How is it different from a dictation app?
Dictation apps try to make your words read as if you had typed them. Promty rewrites them: it drops the filler and repetition and keeps the instructions, so the prompt comes out shorter than what you said. It can show the original transcript next to the result so you can check it.
Will it change what I said?
It is built to keep every fact, number, name and constraint you stated, and to use your latest version when you correct yourself. It never adds anything. It is a small local model, so read the result before you send it.
Is Promty free?
Yes. Promty is free during the beta, with no account and no credit card.
How do I get it?
Download the .dmg from this page, or get it from the Mac App Store. The direct download updates itself and can paste straight into the app you were using. The App Store version updates through the App Store and copies the finished prompt to your clipboard.
