How do I use Promty?
Hold the shortcut shown in the menu bar, speak your prompt, then release. Promty transcribes and cleans it up on-device, then copies it (or pastes it directly, depending on your settings) so you can drop it straight into Claude, ChatGPT, or any other app.
Why does Promty ask for Accessibility access?
Accessibility permission lets Promty type the finished prompt directly into the app you were using (auto-paste) and lets the hold-to-talk shortcut work system-wide. If you'd rather not grant it, turn auto-paste off in Settings — Promty will still copy every result to your clipboard so you can paste it yourself with ⌘V.
The first launch is downloading something — is that normal?
Yes. Promty runs its AI model entirely on your Mac, so the first time you use it, it downloads a compact model once (the app tells you the size and asks before starting). After that one-time setup, everything runs fully offline — no internet connection needed, no data leaves your device.
Auto-paste isn't working.
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure Promty is toggled on. If it's already listed but still not working, remove it (–) and re-add it — a leftover entry from an earlier version can show as enabled without actually working.
Does Promty store or send my voice or prompts anywhere?
No. Recording, transcription, and prompt cleanup all happen on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown of what Promty does and doesn't collect.
How do I uninstall Promty?
Quit Promty from the menu bar, then drag Promty.app to the Trash. To also remove the downloaded on-device model, delete ~/Library/Caches/models.
